[For First-Time Users] Basic Terminology

Science Tokyo LMS and Science Tokyo MORE are built using the open-source LMS application "Moodle".
This section explains the basic terminology used in Moodle.

Course

The basic enrollment unit in LMS/MORE. In LMS, one course is created to correspond to one subject.

Topic Section

A section that groups items together. Sections can be freely added or deleted.
In LMS, if syllabus integration is configured, one topic section is automatically created for each class session.

Role

The role of a user in a course. Roles include instructor, student, TA, and others.

Forum

A feature for discussions, equivalent to a bulletin board.

Activities and Resources

Both activities and resources are items that can be placed in a course.
Dynamic items that enable interaction between instructors and students - such as forums, quizzes, assignments, surveys, and chats - are called "activities."
Static items such as files, URLs, and pages are called "resources."
