Checking Viewing Status for Videos Delivered via Mediasite

Mediasite video managers can use Mediasite analytics to check the viewing status of videos, called presentations.
Analytics for each presentation can be checked by selecting the presentation in My Mediasite and clicking "View Analytics".
Detailed results can also be downloaded as a report in Excel format or other formats.

Notes

Mediasite analytics is designed to support educational improvement through videos, and is not intended for checking exact viewing status down to the second.
As a point to note, Mediasite viewing data is generated as an accumulation of records sent from the user's browser to the server approximately every 30 seconds while the user is watching.

As commonly reported at other universities as well, even if a user watches a video to the end, the viewing percentage may not reach 100% if the user closes the window immediately.
The 30-second interval is also only a best-effort guideline. Because communication takes place over the internet, records may be missed even after 30 seconds have passed. For example, even if a user waits 30 seconds after watching to the end, this does not guarantee that the viewing percentage will be 100%.
As a reference example, some other universities treat a viewing percentage of 90% or higher as equivalent to 100% completion.
As another example, for short videos of 30 seconds or less, even if a user watches to the end, the viewing percentage may remain 0%, meaning unwatched.
This does not mean that increasing playback speed reduces the viewing percentage, such as halving the viewing percentage when watching at double speed.

One way to measure learning outcomes without relying too heavily on Mediasite's exact viewing percentage is to combine videos with quizzes that check understanding of the content.
